International Engineering Club
“As the world moves toward a global economy
there is an increasing need for technical professionals with international
experience. The International Engineering Club (IEC) intends to
inform engineering students at the University of Wyoming about
this growing need. This club will also promote and facilitate
studying abroad, international internships, and interaction with
exchange students in Laramie.”
History
In the spring semester of 2002, two students, Michael
Tomasini and Shane Schieck, founded the International Engineering
Club (IEC) at the University of Wyoming. The club was designed
to facilitate those students interested in going abroad to learn
or work. To enhance one’s education as well as profession,
it is important to maintain a global perspective; IEC helps students
do just that.
Meetings
IEC holds monthly meetings that typically include
guest speakers. Past speakers include members of Engineers Without
Borders, students who have studied abroad, representatives from
the University of Wyoming International Programs office, and Professional
Engineers with global experience. Check our web site, for flyers
in the Engineering College for upcoming meetings, or e-mail the
club for more information.
Engineers Without Borders
In January of 2006, IEC installed a chapter of Engineers
Without Borders (EWB) at the University of Wyoming. The mission
is “to partner with disadvantaged communities to improve
their quality of life through implementation of environmentally,
equitable, and economically sustainable engineering projects,
while developing internationally responsible engineers and engineering
students.” The student chapter of EWB will expand students’
education and experience to address the world’s engineering
needs.
