Electrical and Computer Engineering Students Selected to Receive National Scholarships

August 31. 2009 -The University of Wyoming College of Engineering and Applied Science is pleased to recognize Jennifer Beman and Rob Streeter as recipients of a grant from the National Consortium for Measurement and Signature Intelligence Research (NCMR) Scholars Program. Jennifer and Rob will each receive a grant of $10,000 for Academic Year 2009-2010 to apply to textbooks, tuition, and room and board.

Jennifer Beman is a senior from Cheyenne, Wyoming majoring in electrical and computer engineering at UW. In addition to her studies, Jennifer represented the College as ASUW Senator for two years and is active as treasurer for the Joint Engineering Council student chapter and serves as president of the IEEE student chapter at UW. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies she plans to continue her education at UW in the M.S. program. She credits her success at UW to the support she has received from faculty members in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “I have never had a professor that didn’t provide me the necessary support at UW,” says Beman. “All the professors in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering have gone above and beyond my expectations.”

Robert Streeter is a senior in electrical and computer engineering from Saratoga, Wyoming. Rob is involved in campus activities including the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, IEEE student chapter, and Mortar Board. He is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Golden Key International. In addition to his involvement on campus, he also serves as an assistant leader in his church youth group, is an Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop #153, and is a member of the Albany County Sheriff Search and Rescue team. Following completion of his undergraduate studies he plans to continue at UW in the M.S. program and eventually find a career opportunity close to home along the Front Range.

“Dr. Steve Barrett and Dr. Cameron Wright, who nominated me for this opportunity, stand out as the biggest influences in my undergraduate career,” says Streeter. “Both professors have offered encouragement, various project opportunities, and support and are why I have never second guessed my decision to attend the University of Wyoming.” NCMR Scholars Program students must meet specific requirements for the grant including majoring in engineering, physical sciences, or pre-medical fields; be enrolled full-time undergraduate student with junior or senior status at the start of academic year; and have a grade point average of at least 3.0. NCMR Scholars are expected to participate in NCMR activities associated with the University.
