Brett SpikerApril 13. 2009 - Brett Spiker of the Atmospheric Science Department has been selected as the University of Wyoming Employee of the First Quarter for 2009. The award is given each quarter and selected from nominations submitted to the University of Wyoming Staff Senate Office. After a lifelong fascination with flight, Brett pursued an Aircraft Mechanic career by attending Cheyenne Aero Tech, then located in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He received his A&P license and took his first job working on touring airplanes at the Grand Canyon in Arizona. His next position was with Mesa Airlines in Farmington, New Mexico, where he served as a mechanic, lead mechanic, and an inspector. After several years with Mesa Airlines, Brett accepted a position with Heartland Aviation in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he obtained his Inspector's Authorization. Brett then accepted a position as a mechanic for Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Shortly after beginning his work with Northwest Airlines he discovered a job opening at "home" with the University of Wyoming. He was fortunate to return to Wyoming, joining the UW Department of Atmospheric Science in 1998, and has expanded his experiences working with both research and transportation aircraft.
