Wyoming Engineering Society Honors 2008 Scholarship Recipients

January 30, 2008 - The following students will be honored by the Wyoming Engineering Society at their convention in on Friday, February 1. The WES offers six scholarships for a total of $9,000. The Past President’s Scholarship is a $2,500 award established to honor the past presidents of the WES.  The scholarship is bestowed on a junior for use during the senior year.  Two general scholarships are awarded to juniors for use during their senior year, and the Carl Oslund Scholarship is a $1,500 scholarship established by the family of Carl Oslund in his memory. Mr. Oslund was a longtime member of WES and served as president of the Society in 1965-66.

Chemical Engineering - Casper, Wyoming
Past President’s Scholarship
A chemical engineering major, Nick is a member of AIChE and Tau Beta Pi.  In 2006, he was vice president of the Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.  Currently he serves as president of Tau Beta Pi and as a representative for chemical engineers on the UW Engineering for Enrichment Council.



David Brinkerhoff
Petroleum Engineering, Powell, Wyoming
General Scholarship
David is from Powell, Wyoming and will graduate from UW in May as one of the first petroleum engineering graduates since the reinstated program. He recently accepted a full-time position as a Drilling & Completions Engineer with EOG Resources in Vernal, Utah where he will begin in June. Although his career begins in Utah he hopes to return to Wyoming at a later time. He is actively involved in the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and served as President during his junior year.

Alicia DeMino
Electrical Engineering - Parker, Colorado
Carl Oslund Memorial Scholarship
Along with being a dedicated electrical engineering student, Alicia is a new member of the Tau Beta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.  Over her last three years at UW, she has earned the Dean’s and Principal’s honor roll and has been an officer for the Society of Women Engineers and the Joint Engineering Council. She spent three semesters with the UW wind ensemble as concert master. She has worked in the UW computer labs as an assistant and has recently finished an internship with the Institute of Telecommunication Sciences.  She is currently serving as an engineering tutor.  Alicia is planning to graduate next spring.

Derek Schreinert
Chemical Engineering - Dayton Wyoming
General Scholarship
A chemical engineering major, Derek is vice president for Tau Beta Pi in charge of the annual scholarship banquet and a member of American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He is active in the campus group Navigators and enjoys the great outdoors.
