Retired Professor Honored by the Society of Petroleum Engineers

January 7, 2008 - Retired UW petroleum engineering professor Jack Evers was recently honored by the Wyoming section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers at their meeting in Casper, Wyoming, for his 50 years of service to the organization.  The Society of Petroleum Engineers was separated from the AIME in 1957 and they celebrated their 50th anniversary this year.  Evers was one of the inaugural members when the new organization was formed 50 years ago.

Evers has over 25 years experience as a Professional Petroleum Engineer in private industry (ARCO, Northern Natural Gas, Amoco and Mountain Fuel Supply Company) and as a trainer and consultant. He has conducted numerous short courses in the fields of directional drilling, beam pumping and drilling fluid control, and well log interpretation. He has been retained by many firms as an expert witness in the areas of water well contamination, drilling rig safety, and gas metering. In addition, he has taught at the University of Wyoming and has completed numerous consulting assignments, scoping transient testing, drilling predictions for Green River Basin, hydrologic evaluations from well logs, and well log interpretation.

Evers obtained his B.S. in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and his Ph.D. in petroleum engineering from the University of Kansas. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Wyoming and has several significant publications to his credit. Recently he served an expert judge for the annual College of Engineering and Applied Science Senior Design Symposium held in early December. Among his many awards, he was named Distinguished Lecturer by the Canadian Well Logging Society and is a member of the Engineering Honorary Society and Tau Beta Pi.
