Engineering and Applied Science Announces Student Ambassador Program

- The University of Wyoming College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) Ambassadors program consists of a select group of students charged by the Dean to promote the College to both external and internal audiences. Ambassadors must be engineering or applied science majors, full-time students with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, a member of a professional engineering society, and committed to to sharing their knowledge of the College and UW. The following students have been selected as the 2007-08 Ambassadors:

Danielle Babione, Riverton, WY
Danielle graduated from Riverton High School in 2005.  She is a junior in the architectural engineering and maintains a 3.81 GPA.  She is the president of the UW Student Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), a member of the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI), Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.  She is also very active in various outdoor activities such as hiking and biking. Babione is the first in her family to attend college and plans to graduate in May 2009.  Her future career goals are to establish a foundation in a large structural consulting firm and gain experience in order to eventually obtain a professional engineering license.  Once licensed, Danielle plans to settle into a company and work her way up into a management position.  She is very goal oriented and is eager to get started in her career.

Alyssa Cooper, Riverton, WY                                          
Alyssa is a senior at the University of Wyoming pursuing degrees in both electrical engineering, with a bio option, and molecular biology. In addition to her class work she is actively involved in research attempting to determine the molecular properties of spider silk spearheaded by molecular biology professor Dr. Randy Lewis.  In addition, she is a member of the electrical engineering professional society (IEEE), the engineering honorary (Tau Beta Pi), and the agriculture honorary (Gamma Sigma Delta).




Michelle Edwards, Green River, WY
Michelle will begin her masters program at UW in January 2008 after completion of her B.S. in civil engineering in December 2007. As an undergraduate, she worked for the Wyoming Department of Transportation in their Laramie Design Squad for two years. She serves as the Institute for Transportation Engineers (ITE) student chapter president, a member of Tau Beta Pi Honor Society, and is very active in her church, serving as both accompanist and treasurer.  Born and raised in Green River, Wyoming, she is a huge Cowboy football and basketball fan and hopes to find a job in Wyoming after graduation.



Amy Evans, Rock Springs, WY
Amy is in her second year at UW majoring in Architectural Engineering with a minor in interior design. After graduating with a structural engineering degree she plans to get her masters in architecture. She currently serves as Vice President for Habitat for Humanity student organization while working part time at Gertsch/Baker and Associates, a consulting engineering and architectural design firm.  Within the past year she has drafted and assisted with numerous construction projects including the design of many houses, condos, townhouses, apartment complexes, shops, storage units, and commercial buildings in this area.  During her free time, away from work and school, she spends time with her golden retriever, plays basketball, or volunteers for Habitat for Humanity.
 

David Granum, Casper, WY
David Granum is currently a sophomore studying Chemical Engineering.  A great deal of his time is spent studying but he finds time to participate in the International Engineering Club/Engineers Without Borders (EWB-WYO). In addition he serves as a teacher’s assistant for a general chemistry course on the UW campus.  A Wyoming native, he enjoys the outdoors through hiking, mountain biking, and fishing.  He enjoys music and has enjoyed playing the piano for the past five years.  He values his family and friends the most and always takes time to visit those people that have had the most influence in his life.  Upon graduating, he hopes to stay in Wyoming and pursue a career in the energy industry.


Allison Hiddinga, Rochester, MN
Allison is a senior at UW majoring in civil engineering. She serves as project manager of the Engineers Without Borders (EWB-WYO) student chapter and will travel to Guatemala in December to participate in the building a vocational technical school in Panabaj, Guatemala. She is an active member of the International Engineering Club, Navigators, Tau Beta Pi, and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student organizations.
