Seniors Visit Jonah Field

September 21, 2007 - The 2007-08 College of Engineering and Applied Science multidisciplinary design project examines techniques to extract oil and gas from environmentally sensitive areas.  To gain an insight to the difficulties of gas extraction, the class visited Jonah Field in Pinedale, Wyoming.  The tour was led by Mr. Greg Schamber, regulatory analyst for EnCana Oil and Gas (USA) Ltd.  The class visited drilling and fracking (fracturing the hard sand formations containing the gas) operations.  The class is examining a systems oriented approach to the field development to minimize the land disruption and wildlife fragmentation.  Preliminary recommendations are due in December with detailed development concepts being presented in May, 2008.
