UW Army ROTC Cadet among Nation's BestJune 25, 2007 - Jason Stuck of Pomaria, S.C., a recently-commissioned officer from the University of Wyoming's Army ROTC Cowboy Battalion, was ranked among the top ROTC cadets nationwide. A double major with degrees in electrical engineering and international studies, Stuck was ranked sixth among more than 3,800 ROTC cadets nationwide, according to Lt. Col. Brent Reinhardt, commander of the UW Army ROTC battalion. He says the rankings are based on academic performance (40 percent), leadership performance (45 percent), and physical performance (15 percent). "He volunteered to serve on active duty in the Armor branch and in four years he will transfer to the Military Intelligence branch," Reinhardt says. "Cadet Stuck will attend graduate school of his choice between his fourth and ninth years of service." Two other recent UW graduates also were honored by Cadet Command. Michel Beguin, Rushville, Neb., was ranked 189th. She earned a top 10 percent active duty ranking nationwide and was designated as a Distinguished Military Graduate, reserved for the top 20 percent of ROTC graduates. She currently is assigned to the UW Army ROTC department as a Gold Bar recruiter before she receives officer training at Fort Sill Okla., and Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Her first assignment will be at Fort Riley, Kan., as a Medical Service Corps officer. Timothy Souza, of Cheyenne, also was designated a Distinguished Military Graduate. A December, 2006 UW graduate, he currently serves as an armor officer on active duty at Fort Hood, Texas. |
