Petroleum Engineering Student Enters Archery Trials for the 2007 Canada Winter Games

February 5, 2007 - Sinclair-Smith, a UW petroleum engineering student, has been training for the 2007 Canada Winter Games since 2004. Recently he traveled to Calgary Alberta to shoot in the trials for the 2007 archery team. Unfortunately after two days of shooting and close competition, he was defeated by a narrow margin of three points. Now outside the age restrictions for entering the winter games, he will now continue to train for major open shoots across the country. Open competitions include junior indoor worlds, 3D Canadian Nationals, and the most respected indoor shoot competition to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sinclair-Smith has been practicing archery since he was two years old and competitively since 2001, when he began training for the 2002 Alberta Winter Games. He was awarded a bronze medal at the 2002 Alberta Winter Games in the male compound even competition. Following his success at the 2002 games, he began training for the 2004 Alberta Winter Games. In February of 2004 he went to the winter games and after three days of competition, came out ahead, with the gold medal in the male compound event.

Along with his archery competition shooting, Sinclair-Smith guides for his grandparents archery hunting outfitting company south of Calgary Alberta. Along with his extensive practice and guided hunts, he also serves as field staff for a hunting team called Team Peak and Prairie out of Alberta. He attended high school at Okotoks Composite High School, received his petroleum engineering technical diploma from SAIT in 2006, and is now seeking his B.S. in petroleum engineering from UW.
