Argyle, Tootle, and Polson Receive Top Prof AwardsJanuary 29, 2007 - Dr. Morris Argyle of the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Glenn Tootle and Don Polson of the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering were recognized by the senior honor society Mortar Board as a “Top Prof” at their annual ceremony in November, 2006. Dr. Argyle received his Ph.D. in the Iglesia Laboratory for the Science and Applications of Catalysis and the Bell International Center for Catalysis and Computational Chemistry at the University of California at Berkeley, where his research involved oxidative dehydrogenation of light alkenes to produce alkenes on supported metal oxide catalysts. His current interests are determining the catalyst structure-function relationships responsible for the activity and selectivity of metal oxides and metal sulfides applied in the petrochemical industries. A portion of his research involves low temperature plasmas combined with hydrogen-permeable membranes for the production of hydrogen from hydrogen sulfide streams. Glenn Tootle joined the Civil and Architectural Engineering faculty in 2005. He earned his Ph.D. in 2005 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His dissertation research focused on drought and oceanic-atmospheric influences on U.S. hydrology, specifically stream flow response to phenomena such as El Niño/La Niña. His teaching assignments include hydrology, groundwater and drainage engineering, design of hydraulic engineering systems, and comprehensive design experience. Tootle is a registered professional engineer in Florida and Nevada and has over 13 years of experience in water resources consulting. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering from the University of Florida. This is Don Polson’s fifth “Top Prof” recognition by Mortar Board. In his 30 years of teaching for the College of Engineering, he has been recognized 18 times for his teaching, and was selected as Mortar Board’s “Outstanding Advisor” in 2004. Congratulations to these outstanding engineering professors. |
