Remote Access for Students

Sept. 18, 2006 - The College of Engineering and the University of Wyoming provide several methods for remote access of campus lab systems.

  • Wireless access
  • Remote Printing for Engineers / Computer Science
  • ESIG Everywhere - Remote Desktop for Engineers / Computer Science
  • Remote Desktop for University Systems

Wireless Access
Students working in the College of Engineering currently have wireless access in all of their study areas. These units utilize the universities user authentication by prompting users for their UW username and password. The university also provides VPN services to allow encrypted data connections, keeping other users from seeing your data. Detailed instructions on how to use a wireless system can be found at http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/InfoTech/wireless/default.htm

Remote Printing
The Engineering Graphics Interactive Science (ESIG) lab on first floor also provides wireless printing access to the ESIG Lab printers. This is very similar to printing in the conventional way used while in the labs, but allows printing from another location, such as an office or laptop computer. The credentials will need to be entered each time you log into that computer as long as that printer is installed on the computer and you will be charged accordingly for your printouts.

ESIG Everywhere - Engineering Remote Desktop
Engineering and Computer Science students can now access the Engineering Science (ESIG) computers using remote desktop from any machine on campus or from their home machines with DSL or faster network connections. All of the lab applications are available. This connection does not require a VPN. Also students using Macintosh, Unix or Linux computers can connect and run the lab computers.

Remote Desktop for University Systems
The University of Wyoming also provides a remote desktop solution to access systems similar to those provided in the University labs.
