Civil engineering major Kerri Puckett

JEC Outstanding Senior: Kerri Puckett

Spring 2006 -This year’s Joint Engineering Council (JEC) Outstanding Senior is civil engineering major Kerri Puckett. The selection process included a nominee from each degree program. She was also named Tau Beta Pi (TBP) Outstanding Member for 2006 and at the Engineering Honors Banquet was introduced as “the heart and soul of Tau Beta Pi.” In 2005, she served as TBP Vice President for Projects and in this role she was responsible for coordinating twelve community service activities throughout the school year and fi nding student volunteers to make the projects a success.

This Fall, Kerri took on the daunting task of coordinating the Tau Beta Pi tutoring program. She makes sure that student volunteers are available four nights a week at two different locations on campus. Kerri has instituted several new ideas this year to make the tutoring program more effective. She compiled a list of key study aid materials (twelve different course topic manuals) that would be commonly used by the tutors. She then arranged to have copies of these materials strategically placed at the two study locations. She also revised the tutoring schedule so students would know what nights disciplinespecifi c tutors would be available for assistance. This free tutoring service is available to students campus wide.

Kerri was a grader for twelve classes during her time at UW. She also coordinated tutoring for the Minority Engineering Program and tutored thirty students a week for six semesters. She complered undergraduate research in the hydraulics lab as well as open channel fi eld research. She worked as an intern for BridgeTech, Inc. for two years. Kerri has decided to stay at UW for a graduate degree and will study recharge rates and uncertainty limits in the Powder River Basin with Professor Fred Ogden, Roy L. and Caryl L. Cline Distinguished Chair in Engineering, Environment, and Natural Resources.
