Architectural design students Kurt Guidice, TJ Henderson and Steve Gifford

Research Days Held April 28, 2006

May 8, 2006 - University of Wyoming senior engineering students presented and exhibited the results of their senior design projects at Research Days held April 28, 2006.

Students majoring in architectural, chemical, civil, mechanical, and electrical and computer engineering were required to design, and in some cases fabricate, a project selected in consultation with their advisers.

Architectural design students Steve Gifford, Kurt Guidice, and TJ Henderson participated by designing a feasible parking structure to accommodate the UW campus and house the new campus police headquarters. The project, titled “Defying Sheer Ugliness,” was designed in response to a concerned citizen living adjacent to the proposed building site. According to TJ Henderson, the citizen shared concerns that parking structures were “sheer ugliness.” Design of the structure was modeled to influence those citizens’ opinions in a positive way. According to Steve Gifford, group members invested an estimated 300 hours working on the project. The team also spent approximately 50 hours working on the project model and photo renderings.
