One Class at a TimeMay 1, 2006 - Russ Oliver, from Laramie, Wyo., is a Computer Science major graduating with his BS on May 6. He began his college studies in 1992 at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. In 1993, he moved back to Laramie and after a break in his studies, decided to continue his education at the University of Wyoming. He completed over two years with UW as a full-time student and in 1998, after becoming employed full-time with the UW Department of Information Technology he continued his studies one class at a time. Russ has worked for the College of Engineering as a Systems Programmer for the last six years. After 14 years, Russ has reached his goal – to obtain a BS in Computer Science. Although it took many years, he proved his determination by achieving his dream – one class per semester. As a non-traditional student, Russ mentioned that the most challenging obstacle was “trying to find time for his studies and still spend quality time with family.” Russ and his wife Christy are proud parents of two children, Madison 7, and Dane, 4. They will relocate to Fort Collins, Colo., soon after graduation where he hopes to continue his career in the computer science industry. His dedication to detail and positive personality will be greatly missed by the staff and faculty at the College of Engineering. Congratulations and good luck Russ! |
