Engineering and ART Students conduct a focus group study of transit design concepts at the university union.

Automated Transit System

April 25, 2006 - At 10 AM in the Agriculture Auditorium on April 29th, senior engineering students will be presenting their design of an automated transit system to meet the specific needs of the University of Wyoming and its campus. This presentation is one of more than 220 projects during Undergraduate Research Day 2006, set for Saturday, April 29.

This system replaces the current bus system provided by TransPark.  It is fully compliant with all the American Disabilities Act regulations. This two-way suspended vehicle system encompasses the campus from the Remote Parking Lot on Willet and 30th Street, around the academic campus core, and continues through the residence halls.  Six present stations (Remote Parking, Arena Auditorium, Union, Classroom Building, Corbett Building, and Washakie Dining Hall) and four future stations (College of Engineering, future Ivinson Parking Lot, and future Convention Center) are planned.  There are two possible points of expansion to serve downtown Laramie or Wal-Mart.  The uniquely designed vehicles will travel 20 mph along a 3.5 mile route taking approximately 12.2 minutes including stops.  The estimated minimum wait time will be 2.5 minutes. The projected fleet size will be 12 vehicles - 5 vehicles on each route at peak times and 2 vehicles on maintenance stand-by.
