Governor Signs Bills at UW

April 3, 2006 - Gov. Dave Freudenthal signs legislation establishing a University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources. The bill appropriates $12.1 million to fund the first two years of a three-year "ramp up" to full implementation. The school will offer teaching, research and service activities to develop technologies that make better use of Wyoming's traditional energy resources -- oil, coal, and natural gas -- while exploring the viability of renewable natural resources, such as wind and solar energy.

While at UW, the governor also signed legislation enabling the state to match up to $40 million raised by UW, including $15 million in one-time funds for capital facilities ($6 million for athletics facilities and $9 million for academic facilities) and $25 million in one-time funds to continue the endowment matching program.

Attending the signing ceremonies in the UW Foundation House were, seated from left, UW President Tom Buchanan, Gov. Freudenthal, UW Trustees' President Judy Richards, and Myron Allen, UW vice president for academic affairs.
