Electrical Engineering Student Receives Entrepreneurship Award

February 6, 2006 - Five University of Wyoming student teams received $100 each for their projects in the $10K Entrepreneurship Competition Fall Warm-Up. The top team can win $10,000 in the spring semester competition, open to all full-time UW students

Justin Carroll, an electrical engineering senior from Sheridan, is the team leader for Coalbed Natural Gas (CBNG) Technologies. According to Carroll, the goal is the develop products to improve production from CBNG wells.

The CBNG industry is a large fraction of the Wyoming state product. Tens of thousands of wells have been drilled and many more are on the way. Since the industry is relatively new compared to conventional oil and gas production, the methods and equipment used for developing wells and extracting gas are in a state of continual evolution.

A staff of creative people to develop and actively market products will be a benefit to the industry. While there are many competent firms offering conventional engineering services to the industry, there seem to be none offering the unique service of developing products for market or proprietary use.
