Application of Simulated Annealing Algorithm to Fracture Prediction
Research Advisor : Dennis N. Coon

Simulated annealing is a relatively new algorithmic approach to combinatorial optimization problems. To date, this project is the first attempt to apply a simulated annealing algorithm to prediction of failure in materials. This approach has the potential for computationally efficient fully three-dimensional failure prediction capabilities. The goal of this project is to apply simulated annealing to model material as a proof -of-concept. This project is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student with excellent programming skills and an interested in failure.
