Throughout the week, Dr. Barret and TA Jared stimulated the student’s minds with the complexities of how computers interpret anything and everything through 1’s and 0’s; helping the students understand what certain chips did on a cirucit board, and how you would go about assembling a working circuit.

Dr. Barret teaches the computer electronics class.
| For example, we started out with a simple circuit with a battery, switch, and LED. After looking at AND gates, OR gates, and the inverter chips, we set out to build a circuit describing the conditions that needed to be met to get Dr. Barret’s lawn mowed. The four switches corresponded to mower, gas, time, and compensation (money to pay his son). When the correct switches were on, the LED would light and the lawn would get mowed. |

Tyler and Greg have fun constructing one of many projects
| We then moved on to more complex topics such as turning a word problem into a Truth (ones and zeroes) Table and simplifying the circuit with a Karnaugh Map. After we all understood what we were doing, we got to fabricate bigger and better circuits, making for a really enjoyable class. The final project was building an operational timer. This class let us utilize our minds in ways you wouldn’t find in a normal highschool. We got an immense taste of the world of electronics. |
