Outstanding Staff Award

July 2, 2007 - Elizabeth "Liz" Henn is an accounting associate, senior in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She began her career with UW shortly after earning her B.S. in accounting from UW in 1978. During her ten years working for UW she worked in the budget office, payroll, and Cooperative Extension Service. In July of 1988 she moved to southwest Iowa with her husband John and two sons, Michael and Brian. She worked for ten years as the Cass County mental health advocate, working with involuntarily committed mentally ill clients. During that time, she also worked as a bookkeeper for two law offices.

Henn moved back to Wyoming in November, 2001 and returned to Laramie and her work at UW in May 2002. She worked as a senior office associate for Community Service Education and as an assistant conference coordinator for the State of Wyoming Substance Abuse Division in Cheyenne. In November of 2004, she took the accounting associate senior position with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.

Henn spends her time ordering items for faculty and senior design students, paying bills, processing travel, reconciling all departmental accounts and setting up, closing out, as well as processing, cost share and release time on contracts and grants. She is the work study coordinator for the department and processes payroll forms as well as time sheets and personnel activity reports for faculty, staff, and students who work for the department.

According to Mark Balas, Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, “Liz became an essential staff member in her role as accountant, is a huge asset to the Engineering College, and an excellent resource for the department. She handles the extraordinary details of our department accounts, advises me in fiscal issues, and treats students and faculty with respect and heartfelt consideration.”
