Title: Shear Transfer of Two-Wythe C-Grid Shear Panels

Dates: June 2004-June 2006

Principal Investigator's Name(s): Jennifer Tanner and Charles Dolan

Program Overview: Two-wythe sandwich reinforced concrete panels consist of two concrete wythes fastened together with carbon fiber reinforcement and containing a core of expanded polystyrene foam insulation (EPS). The carbon fiber reinforcement consists of a 2 inch by 2 inch grid rotated 45 degrees to create a truss mechanism to transfer loads between wythes. This research project evaluates the fatigue performance of shear-dominated specimens using 2 inch and 4 inch center wythes subject to reversed cyclic loads. Reinforced panels using C-GRID as shear transfer reinforcement comprise an innovative panel system providing thermal resistance above traditional construction materials.
