| Note:Electives are governed by the approved list in effect at the time a course is taken. Students should therefore check the current list before enrolling in a course to confirm that the course is an approved elective. |
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ELECTIVE SELECTION GUIDELINES:
CE Areas of Emphasis:
15 hours of structured Professional Development Electives (PDE) are required and completion of a CDE activity. Electives are to be selected from the 6 areas of emphasis according to the following criteria:
| 1 Course in 3 of 6 areas | 9 hours |
| A second course in 1 of the 3 areas | 3 hours |
| An additional course in any of the 6 Areas | 3 hours |
| Total = | 15 hours |
Engineering Design Content: The Professional Development Electives (PDE) and Technical Electives (TE) courses selected must contain adequate design credits to complete the required minimum of 16 hours for the entire curriculum. The design hours are given on the PDE and TE sheets.
Degree Check: When the student has 50 hours or less to completion, the advisor and student must complete a Degree Check in which the complete program of study is given. This includes listing all courses that will be required for graduation. The student should have a program of study laid out prior to the advisor meeting.
Comprehensive Design Experience (CDE): ABET describes the Comprehensive Design Experience as:
Students must be prepared for engineering practice through the curriculum culminating in a major design experience based on the knowledge and skills acquired in earlier coursework and incorporation engineering standards and realistic constraints that include most of the following considerations: economic; environmental; sustainability; manufacturability; ethical; health and safety; social; and political. 2002-2003 Criteria for Accrediting Engineering Programs.
