Graduate Program Information

The University of Wyoming offers Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in both Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. If you have an undergraduate degree in either of these subject areas, and if you meet our admission requirements, you will be well suited to enroll in the graduate program. We also offer an interdisciplinary MS degree in Environmental Engineering that may be followed by a PhD Degree in either Petroleum or Chemical Engineering. Our degree programs are structured to encourage interdisciplinary research, and those with undergraduate degrees in other engineering disciplines and/or the sciences are also encouraged to make application. With rare exceptions, all of our full time graduate students receive financial assistance.

Our graduate program is relatively small by comparison to the nation's larger research institutions. Because of our size, we can offer intimate one-on-one contact on a research problem. Our graduate students work with their faculty mentor, as opposed to working for their advisor. In the same manner, the student-to-faculty ratio in the classroom is such that instruction can be individualized to an extent that may not be possible in larger programs. Students have a choice between small exploratory projects and large, well established projects, and between applied and basic disciplines. Department faculty have extensive industrial contacts. As a consequence, our projects are not only at the frontier of technical knowledge, but they are also relevant. The graduates of our programs generally find themselves to be highly marketable.

The Department provides its graduate students with spacious offices and laboratories. The laboratories are among the very best that can be found in an academic institution worldwide, and they are filled with modern instruments. All graduate offices are equipped with modern personal computers.
