Research Interests
His current research interests include applications of nanostructure(d) materials and combined nano-bio technologies in chemical and environmental engineering as well as energy production; identification and removal of conventional and emerging contaminants in water and wastewater, and pollutants in air; development of green chemical manufacturing processes and environmental sensors; production and separation of chemicals from biorenewable resources; and characterization and utilization of waste materials.

Synergistic Activities
He has led and worked on many projects in the areas of energy production and its resultant environmental issues, and green chemical synthesis processes, which have been supported by various domestic and international scientific research entities such as the U.S. DOE and EPA, Research Institute of Innovative Technology for Earth/NEDO in Japan, UNDP, and Beijing Science and Technology Commission in China. He has also worked with many chemical manufacturing, energy production, and environmental engineering companies in different countries on research and industrial projects. He is an associate editor, editorial board member or guest editor for several international chemical and environmental engineering journals. He has edited and/or authored 10 book, book chapters and journals special issues, as well as published more than 70 journal papers.
