Architectural engineering is a profession which focuses on the design and construction of safe, efficient, aesthetic, and economical buildings. Our students explore the myriad challenges of designing buildings for a modern environment by selecting an emphasis in either structural or mechanical system design.
There is virtually no limit to the different types of projects and facilities on which architectural engineers work. Our alumni might be found designing the structural system for a forty-story office building, the mechanical and structural systems for a high-security complex, or a close-tolerance air conditioning system for a computer chip manufacturing plant. Architectural engineers provide their expertise to business, industry, and local, state, and federal governments and may also use their skills and experience abroad.
In addition to preparing students for these varied and exciting challenges, our program also serves as an excellent springboard for students who wish to earn advanced degrees in business, structural, mechanical, and architectural engineering, or architecture.
The future will bring opportunities which cannot even be imagined today. Through the experience gained by internships and related employment as well as their preparation received at the University of Wyoming, our graduates are well qualified to work in this growing field.
